Show Spoiler

a5c7b9f00b Arnold Schwarzenegger plays a Russian policeman sent after a Georgian drug dealer who has escaped to the United States and is awaiting extradition in Chicago. Jim Belushi plays his temporary partner on the Chicago police. When the drug dealer escapes, the two police must overcome their differences in order to recapture him.
A tough Russian policeman is forced to partner up with a cocky Chicago police detective when he is sent to Chicago to apprehend a Georgian drug lord who killed his partner and fled the country.
Body-building is one thing - fighting is quite another, requiring entirely different disciplines and strengths. All those Russian blokes posing and puffing, gazing lovingly at their own bodies in the opening sequence would run a mile from a serious fight in case they got a few bruises. As soonArnie went on the rampage that room would have emptied in double quick time. And,really, isn't Arnie himself just a little musclebound? He can hardly bend over for goodness sake! Even 20 years ago the plot was a bit hoary,cop/cowboy chases all over the world/West to catch his partner's killer. Teams up with ill - matched fellow cop/cowboy to get revenge.Well,Mr Hill churns it all out quite efficiently,Arnie is slow but sure and doesn't have many lines to remember but in the DVD I watched the sub - titles for the Russian dialogue were so briefto be meaningless. I daresay in 1988 Mr James Belushi's foul - mouthed smart - alec sexist moron of a cop may have been seenthe mutt's nuts but it hasn't travelled well and is now merely embarrassing, you cringe every time he opens his mouth, which he does quite a lot. Apart from being an ill - mannered ignorant slob it is hard to see what Sergeant Ridzick brings to the party. With the fall of the Berlin Wall and the diaspora of the Russian Mafia "Red Heat" isaboutrivetinglast year's "Old Moore's Almanac" and fully deserves its place in the bottom of the parrot's cage.
In the 1980s, action movies had been handmade, live-action stunts, exploding blood-bags under costumes and special effect techniques with creaking metal, splintering glass and pyro-gun-shots. "Red Heat" directed by Walter Hill is no exception.

Opening at Russian unisex bath house in steaming gritty atmosphere, the movie comes immediately to the point of action by crashing testosterone steeled bodies into a fist fight, which dives into a screen story of a Russian police officer, portrayed by Arnold Schwarzenegger at the age of prime 40, investigating further leads to a underground drug dealer, who eventually chases him onto the streets of Chicago, Illinois, USA where the movie finds bus chasing showdown at a factory sight.

Supported by comedian/actor James Belushi, performing in the role of Chicago police detective Art Ridzik, Arnold Schwarzenegger presents his trademarks of minimalistic gestures, fast-shifting head movements and focused eye-lines, making "Red Heat" an enjoyable retrospective action movie, which keeps its pace throughout. Cinematography by Matthew F. Leonetti gives further spice in the unless simplistic story-line of no sophistication, in capturing the remarkable detailed production design by Michael Corenblith at a state of precisely blocked camera movements.

Production Company Carolco Pictures, executively led by Mario Kassar and Andrew Vajna, about to experience its heights in the early 1990s showed the skill of having the right nose for establishing a professional on-set environment to deliver a quality picture, which keeps spectators in a satisfactory state at the movie houses until it is time to leave "Red Heat" behind with no further importance.

© 2017 Felix Alexander Dausend (Cinemajesty Entertainments LLC)
The world of his films may be violent, but Hill's vision is a delicate, subtle one-of individuals packing away the tiny bit of meaning and emotion life has granted them, and fighting to protect it at all costs. It's not a sentiment that can survive in cartoons; that it emerges at all in Red Heat is a tribute to Hill's still great talent. [17 Jun 1988, p.A]
The police mentioned he would have a "nice" room in a upper class hotel. Ivan being a soviet would much rather live in a room similar to his home accommodations. It also helps to prevent being poisoned by western influences of capitalism.

Notice how poorly he responds to the pay per view TV.

There's more to it than that, however. Victor was arrested close to the hotel.

Victor had been pulled over for running a red light, whereupon the arresting officers found out that he was driving without a license and illegally possessed a handgun.

In addition to being arrested close to the hotel, Victor had also been lodging there before his arrest. Ivan checks into the same room that Victor was using, presumably to find any additional evidence and clues that could be used against his fugitive. Red Heat isn't always shown in its uncensored version on US TV. That is mainly due to the nudity and profanity the movie contains.
